Charm
Just look at that face! Charm has been a beloved resident of Southwest Wildlife since 2019, after she was discovered during a police drug bust in Phoenix.
Officers were prepared for suspects, but not for a young javelina running loose in the house. Charm had been kept illegally as a pet and was clearly far too comfortable around humans to live in the wild. Unfortunately, the vets suspected her exposure to drugs caused brain damage, which is yet another reason she is not a candidate to be released back into the wild. Because of this and her strong imprinting on people, Charm can’t return to the wild. But thanks to supporters like you, she has a safe, loving forever home at our sanctuary.
Though often mistaken for pigs, javelinas (also known as collared peccaries) are a distinct species native to the Americas. They can be found in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, through Mexico, and south all the way to Argentina.
Sponsoring Charm helps provide her with lifelong care and supports our mission to protect Arizona’s native wildlife. She may not live a wild life, but she’s living a good one, thanks to you.
