Moccasin

Moccasin was kept as an illegal pet from the time she was young. She is considered non-releasable because she is too comfortable with humans and does not know how to hunt for herself or avoid predators.

After she was confiscated, she was taken to the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum (ASDM) in Tucson, where her comfort around people made her a valuable education animal ambassador. Through our relationship with ASDM, she was moved to Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center. With her prior training on the falconry glove and comfort around people, she was once part of our education programs to help us connect audiences of all ages with the importance of living peacefully with wildlife. Over time, it became clear that she no longer enjoys participating in these programs, and in keeping with our commitment to her well-being, she has since been retired from education work.

Moccasin is at the Ramada, and can be seen enjoying her favorite treat- a mousicle (frozen mouse).
