Baby Season has officially begun! On April 17th, we welcomed our first baby of the season: a coyote pup, just a few weeks old, found abandoned in Phoenix. Oddly enough, April 17th also marked the start of baby season for us last year.
Later that same day, a gray fox, just a few months old, was found on its own. With no mother in sight, the fox was brought to the sanctuary, where she is now safe, stable, and being closely monitored.
Since then, we’ve also taken in a litter of eight coyote pups, all with their eyes still closed. The pups were rescued from a construction site and brought to a veterinary hospital in Avondale before arriving at SWCC. Their eyes opened shortly after they settled in, and they’re now receiving around-the-clock care.
Our youngest intake so far has been a tiny bobcat kitten, estimated to be less than a week old when she arrived. Her eyes and ears are still shut, and she is fully dependent on us for every feeding.
Caring for these baby animals requires our staff to feed them every few hours and is truly a labor of love. With support from community members like you, we’ll do everything we can to give these little ones the best possible chance at a wild future.
