Wildlife is often misunderstood- from the animals we see in our neighborhoods to those who are out in the desert, there are plenty of myths about what wildlife eats, what to do if we come close, how they behave, and the role they play in the ecosystem.
This week, we are deciphering fact from fiction for a few of Arizona’s native species: raccoons, bobcats, coyotes, and mountain lions. You might be surprised by how much there is to learn once we look beyond common misconceptions!
Every species has a role to play and understanding that role can change the way we see the animals around us. The more we learn about wildlife- their behaviors, adaptations, and place in the ecosystem, the easier it becomes to appreciate them for what they are: wild animals that have evolved to survive.
Sometimes, the best way to appreciate wildlife is simply to look past the myths.
